I'm in the process of mirroring files to a new 1Tb NAS (yippee) and wanted to test performance as the NAS is by the router with the MVP while the PC is too floors up on wireless. I set the directories in GBPVR (share mapped to drive) and could see the name only couldn't see the contents - should this have worked out the box or was it just maybe the drive was asleep?

Any tips?

Cheers!

yep, sounds like permissions prob....make sure your username on gbpvr machine is in user db for NAS....[has rights to login to NAS]

also, make sure the recording service is logging in as a user, not using machine account...
[go into services, properties for recording service, have it log on as a admin to access shares within gbpvr, also check 'interact with desktop']

i hear the NDAS is faster than NAS [same as local hard drive]
but either should be plenty fast for this...Smile

If I understand your setup correctly, my concern would be with a wireless connection and video. Even though your NAS is wired near your mvp, the mvp will stream from gb-pvr so your files will always being transferred twice. The higher the bitrate the worse the risk of problems gets.

For LiveTV (3x) and transcoded files (4x) it would be worse if you configure everything on the NAS.

Thanks for the tip pBS! Re the double network traffic - that's what I figured, but I wanted to test it and see!!!

Cheers.

Re: NDAS, hadn't heard of that - sounds like it might be the thing when I add another 1TB ;-)

I have two 1TB NAS drives that I use via the MVP. They work great. I see no noticeable speed difference in them vs local drives.

My MVP works fine off my NDAS drive, but I do not use wireless in any part of my network.

Thanks for the reply Jeff. Another advantage is my direct attached video drive sometimes won't wake up so the NAS would be a useful backup rather than going upstairs and turning the DAS drive off and on again...

I'm going to have another look at this:
"...also, make sure the recording service is logging in as a user, not using machine account...
[go into services, properties for recording service, have it log on as a admin to access shares within gbpvr, also check 'interact with desktop']...

.. because I can now view the NAS on gbpvr on the desktop but can't open the folder on the MVP yet.

Cheers!

Cool

I never did get this to work. I can log onto the nas using the same creds as the windows logon and gbpvr recording service is set to use that account too - although the poster above suggested I should set enable to interact with desktop although that is not possible if you specify an account rather than just using local. Any other suggestions?

Cheers!
