Time Shifting/Channel Change/Stuttering

I turned on the timeshifting mode and now when changing channels it can take 1-2 secs for the channel change to occur and then you get another 1-5 secs of frozen, stuttering video before live kicks in. Is this nominal with timeshifting mode?

If it's not nominal are there any settings I can adjust to minimize the delay in changing channels, the stuttering? One quick note: I did bump the low/med/high quality recording bit rate settings up in the hopes of getting better quality recordings(bumped like 15% each). Would this have an affect? What's the default recording mode in time shift?

Or is the stuttering hardware related? System:
2.4GHz P4
1G RAM
Ti4200(changing to 7600GS today)

It depends what type depends what type of capture device you're using. An analog device should be able to channels and continue playing in about 2 seconds. How quickly a digital device will channels varies quite a bit depending on the mux that is used (though most muxes wont produce data for an additional 4 seconds or so).
