I have been looking for and wide to get some good PVR software for my ATSC tuner card.
Right now I have an AVerMEDIA A180 tuner card inside a P4 2.6ghz processor, ASUS P4PE motherboard with an ATI All-in-Wonder 9800pro video.
I have setup the tuner with all the correct channel mappings that I need, and it most of the time records what I want from the TV guide.
The problem is with sound. It is intermittant on what is recorded, and doesn't play at all on the live TV. I don't know if it has anything to do with the AC3 sound settings from the channels that I have.
For example, I recently recorded American Test Kitchen off the PBS channel 43.2. The software is set to give 1 minute padding on the front, and 2 at the end of the show. The first minute of the recorded show is completely silent. About 7 seconds after the show I want has started, the sound suddenly comes on, but will dissapear for the last 2 minutes of the recording.
I had Plane & Fancy cooking show also getting recorded fromt he same channel (43.2), and this show recorded absolutely no sound at all. No settings were changed between the two recordings, and it is the same channel within an hour of each other.
If I go to live TV, then I will get no sound most of the time, but have gotten it once or twice in the past 3 days. If I select to quick record, and play the DVR-MS file generated in Media Player 11, then you get sound. So it is being recieved, just not playing.
I don't know where to start in trying to diagnose this. I don't know if it has to do with the A180 card that I have. I was looking to get an Hauppauge WinTV HVR-1600 card so it is supported by direct drivers and can write in MPEG2 files to disk.
I can put in an SoundBlaster PCI64 (CT4810) card to see if the onboard SoundMAX card is causing the issue.
Any help would be appreciated. This has me baffled.
Matt.
