How do you deal with that in GBPVR, what is the database?

if you were looking to migrate your recordings (complete with show description, genre etc) from mythtv over to gbpvr, you would have to write some code to read the data from the mysql file and then export it to an xml file in a format recognised by gbpvr. this file can then be imported into the gbpvr database.

someone might even be able to make a mythtv plugin... I guess it could be possible, have the plugin go and access the myth database, and display meaningful information about the recordings.

is there a way for a plugin to change any of the OSD information, like the description?

There is a directshow application/filter somewhere that will allow a windows box to connect to a mythTv box & play the recordings.

Can't remember the syntax but when you do PlayVideo() one of the args is the description. I use this when playing trailers in the Cinema plugin.

thanks, but I wasnt saying I want to make a myth plugin :p, I dont even run myth... I actually am giving up on using linux for my file server, since I only want one machine running at all times... so it will be a win 2k3 file/gb-pvr server, using software RAID5, and with probably 4 400GB SATA HDDs, unless the 500GB ones come down a bit, then I will use those Smile

I set up a linux box to try to use Myth, more to get away from microsoft than to go toward myth. After looking over how to set up Myth, I didn't even try. GBPVR is both good and simple to setup and run. Hard to beat, but that whole MS thing. So now I have my two systems, one primarily for PVR and the other for everything else.

When I first started down the PVR path, I installed MythTV. I set up a Linux box, did all the MythTv Magic, and loved it. Great software.

Then, I tried to upgrade MythTV using the automatic updater. It installed a new remote control driver that screwed up my kerel. WHAT? Upgrading an application messed up the kernel? YUP!

So, I formatted the drive, installed Windows and GBPVR and have been happy since. Imagine that - upgrading your PVR software doesn't recompile the kernel. What a novel concept!

I've been using Unix for over 20 years, even working on porting kernels to new hardware. But, now I just want to watch TV when I want to. You shouldn't have to be a Linux Kernel expert to watch TV!
