Hi,

I have a widescreen monitor and the input signal is set to 16:9 and also in the config I have set GB-PVR to 16:9. However: It is not correctly displayed. It seems like GB-PVR thinks the signal is 4:3 (probably because it is from an analog source - settop-box over PVR) instead of 16:9 because i get black bars right and left of the site (although that is already done by the settop-box if it is really a 4:3 signal). At least that happens in Pillarmode. In the other modes it is too not displayed correctly or even cut off (except Fill-Mode).
There is only one mode where I can get this right and that is with Fill (F7 key) but that is not that perfect, I mean if I resize the window not correctly it could get stretched or things like this...
I use the newest GB-PVR v1.0.16 and the device I use is a Hauppauge WinTV PVR USB2 (AVS).

All analog capture devices, including your Hauppauge WinTV PVR USB2, mark it's recordings as 4:3, which is why GB-PVR is adding black bars at the left/right. The only thing you can do is press F7 to get the picture as best you can.

In general this is the right thing for the analog device manufacturers to do, since its not common for 16:9 shows to be transmitted over analog networks. Usually they'd transmit ARC'd 4:3 fullframe analog, containing a 14:9 picture or something similar, but this is still received on the video captue device input as a 4:3 video (with black bars top and bottom as part of the picture prior to being sent down the cable). Likewise, if you're using something like digital cable, and its outputting a letterbox widescreen picture over svideo/composite, then this picture is also received as 4:3 with the set top box artificially adding black bars to the top/bottom of the widescreen picture to convert it to 4:3 so it can be sent over svideo/composite.

OK. It doesn't really matter that much because with Fill it works for viewing and for recording I most time set the settopbox to 4:3 anyway and even if not I could easily change the stream to 16:9 by DVD Patcher or a program like this...

BUT: Wouldn't it be possible to add a possibility to override the aspect ratio somewhere in GB-PVR configuration - would be nice.

Sorry, its not that simple. Some of the black bars are part of the picture, so the picture really is a 4:3. This would have to have been removed prior to the device encoding the picture, which is not possible.

So you mean the device adds black bars up and down if it is a 16:9 picture to make it 4:3?

EDIT:
From what I can tell that's not true. The picture itself is 16:9, only the MPEG2-Stream has set a wrong aspect ratio - and to confirm this I tried to record a bit of a stream (either set to 16:9 or 4:3 - did this with WinTV2000 because it is faster to record a few seconds that way) and there were no black bars up and down.
Afterwards I used DVDPatcher to change the MPEG2-Aspect-Ratio (and only that) and that gave me a perfect 16:9 video picture. So it seems that only the aspect ratio is set wrong - which should be easily overrideable, shouldn't it?
