Large video archine database, 100 MB

I'm using 1.0.16 and the newest VA on 9/25/07. The video archine database (db3) has reached 102 mb. Prior to the upgrade it was around 10 MB. I'm not sure how or if I can shrink it. Is this normal?

I've seen it expand upon upgrade. It is not what it is supposed to do, but it seems to happen sometimes. I have a utility that should fix it. I won't be able to post it until tomorrow or Monday however since I don;t have immediate access to the machine that it is on.

Mine is 125MB, so I'll be lurking around here for the fix as well.

Not that it matters as much as getting the list-loading-faster-fix in place but once you get to this one, I have subscribed to this thread as well...

I just posted an update yesterday. The plug-in should notify you automatically the next time you enter it that an update is available. Can you let me know if it does.

In the update is a program called CompressVADatabase. It takes a *long* time to run. When it is done it will try to rename the original VA database to video archive original.db3. It creates a new database call video archive compressed.db3 and, if it can, renames it to video archive.db3 when all is done. You will need to check when it is done to see if the renames worked since they will fail if the files are in use at the time. You can continue to run gbpvr will the compression is running. There are also a few command line options available that you can use to prune out old data from the database. It trimmed my database by about 50Mb. Note however that my database is still about 195Mb. It has around 7500 file records spread across 500 directories. Given that images are stored in the database for DVD files and directories, a large database is "normal" if you have lots of directories or DVDs.

Ran the compress feature on a 126 MB file.

It read 982 records (directories) resulting in a database of 120MB.

Proceeded to add FileMapRecords and just short of 10.000 ArchiveTable records, but it seemed like it added a lot of recordings that once was recorded, but has long been deleted. :confused:

Used virtually no CPU but almost 1 GB :eek: memory in the process ...

After more than ½ hour it ended up with a database of the exact same size as the one I started with I suppose the built in optimisation is working just fine in its own right.

From the above post it makes sense that it's kind of big from storing the folder images (I have no DVDs). I thought it only based itself on the images already present in the folders (why store them again in the database). But 126 MB is not many minutes of recordng, so it don't matter much anyway

the automatic update feature work fine for me. I ran the compression program and it reduce the DB file from 104.8 to 104.2MB. I have approx. 600 records. I didn't rename the file instead I forced a rescan to create a new DB. Its about 85MB. the compression went fast for me about 2 min. Two things I wanted to ask about.

1) one of my Video Diretories is not contain within a folder o the hard drive. for example the location of my Ocean vacation movie is F:\ Ocean Vaction\Ocean Vacation.mpg. The Plugin setting is F:\. When I go in to Videos from PVRX2 The files all start with "F:". Following the example above I see F:Ocean Vacation. This is a small problem when I'm listing thing Alphabetically. Is thier a way to drop the F:\ or should I do the quickfix and put all the files into a single folder on F:\ ?

2) I'm no database expert but I would like to run a query and generate a printable report cataloging the movies and location. Is this possible. I have found some duplicates of movies in different diretories.

There are a whole bunch of SQLite tools available for free on the web that you can use to look at your database. You can even edit the database -- at your own risk of course. The plug-in also comes with a utility called "Export VA Records.exe" that will create an XML file called vaexport.xml that contains information on the files in the database.
