I bought a new Compaq computer with Vista and I have a problem:

my Zyxel 335WT router gives the Vista comp Ipadress and then another and so on

no problems with XP machines though.

and still it does not work sometime it shows a conflict.

I changed to fixed IP and now it works - but I have to repair the Network connection after every restart.

(I tried a wireless USB stick and same problem appeared)

Anyone else having this kind of problem?
Vista related?
anything I can change in Vista configuration?

Do you know if you have a unique hostname set?

give your pc's thier own ip addresses rather than auto this fixes this problem and then if you ever map folders they are always in the same place saves lots of hassles

I do actually give all my PCs - (I hav3 Win XP on the network) a dedicated IP via router DHCP function to lock IP to a Macadress.

On this Vista machine this did not work though - so I gave it a manual IP - but it still does not work when restarting - I have to inactivate and then activate the network card - and sometimes do a diagnostic/repair before it actually finds the network.

No one else having similar problem?

I fixed my problem by setting up a static ip address. Have you checked to see if there is any updated firmware for your router?

Yes I updated to latest - although it was from 2006 - Zyxel support does not say Vista is supported - but it should work.

I have not yet tried another router - have to get time to try that to see if the router is the problem
