I would bet the smarthome ones would work but like martint123 said, the hauppauge ones do have a stereo type plug since they are a combo xmitter and rcvr. You would have to get or make some kind of adapter to plug it in. Search this forum, there are a lot of discussions on extending the emitter cords and stuff like that. Your easy bet is to get a new one from Hauppauge. Trust me, it was a huge difference. Still not shooting from across the room, but it I could put it on my STB window within a couple of inches of the receiver and it would work. The first one I got had to be ON the receiver (I even had to pull the plastic window on the STB and actually place it on the receiver)

Thanks for your comments. I consulted a local forum as well, and the problem seems to be with the specific model of the STB I have. Since this is the only model that can output s-video here, I don't want to replace it. The best solution people got was using the USB-UIRT, as was suggested here as well.

I wanted to chime in on this... as I spent a LOT of time trying to figure out how to replace/extend the PVR150 blaster cable.

The cable plug has 4 poles - it's not just a standard stereo plug. I guess cause it controls the blaster as well as the remote receiver, and the blaster needs power.

Anyhow, I looked far and wide, and never found anything that would work without doing some splicing. And I learned the hard way - the wire is VERY brittle and hard to splice.

I'd recommend contacting Hauppauge, they've sent me 2 free cables with no questions asked. Unless of course you don't mind shelling out the $50+ on the USBUIRT.
