Hi All
I spent some time tonight trying to install a 2nd capture card only to realize that the PVR-150MCE is not supported under Windows 2000. The PVR-150 is supposed to be, so I'm exchanging for one of those. During my efforts, I downloaded the DeviceTypeDetect program. What I have found is that my current card, a PVR-250, is not detected by this utility even though the card is working fine w/ gbPVR. The output from the utility is:

23:25:16.153 INFO Log started
23:25:16.153 VERBOSE ECP interface found

23:25:16.153 ERROR Failed to get ECP general string
23:25:16.173 VERBOSE FindFilterByName failed to locate filter: Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCI II Capture
23:25:16.173 ERROR Failed to find requested device: Hauppauge PVR150 (instance 2)

I'm pretty sure that "PVR PCI II" is what the PVR-250 is called in the Hauppauge drivers; could this be an issue with the .ini file included w/ DeviceTypeDetect? I should mention that in gbPVR config, when I set up the capture source and select the "Show only devices found" it correctly lists the PVR-250. I am also attaching my zipped logs directory. My question is, when I get my 2nd card, how can I figure out which capture card # to use in gbPVR config?

Thanks for any help!

I'd be surprised if a PVR-150 worked on Windows 2000 while a PVR-150MCE did not. These are effectively the same card and use the same drivers.

Are you sure they didnt give you an HVR1600 in a PVR150MCE box? They've been known to do this on several occasions. This would explain why it wouldnt work with DeviceTypeDetect. If you'd ran filtercheck.exe and posted the filtercheck.log, I would have been able to tell you.

First try the PVR250 as device #1 and the PVR150 as device #2. If that doesnt work, then switch the device numbers. It'll only take you a few minutes to test both possible combinations.

As always, thanks for the help sub. I tried putting in the 150MCE, and when I set it to capture #1 and the 250 to capture #2 they both seem to work. When I did this, though, all my pending recordings disappeared. Not a big deal, I can recreate them, but I wanted to make sure that I didn't mess up anything else.

BTW, I found your refs to filtercheck in various threads but only realized today that it is included in the gbPVR distribution. For info's sake I am including filtercheck outputs from my original and new config, along with the mandatory zipped logs Smile

Thanks again

It definitely looks like a PVR150MCE and a PVR250.

Great. Stick with those settings then.

I'm not sure why that would have happened - unless you deleted your capture sources.

That explains it; when I was struggling w/ the 150MCE last night I deleted my 250, to see if I could get the 150MCE to work by itself.

Thanks again sub! Your program is really remarkably good, and we all appreciate your effort.

I've run into a new problem, unrelated to the original topic but I thought I'd just add to this thread.
After getting my 2nd card installed and working fine (tested it by manually recording 2 simultaneous shows) I set up my regular recording schedule, which included a show that was being shown back-to-back for most of the day today. I have this show set as a "anytime, any channel" recording w/ a 1 minute pre and 2 minute post padding. Back-to-backs have always worked fine, and today several recordings went fine, but at 2:00 something strange happened. I've attached my logs, but reading through them I notice the following:

2007-12-08 13:59:02.370 VERBOSE [5] RecordingFactory.getExtrasForGroup(17)
2007-12-08 13:59:02.580 INFO [5] Found new programme requiring recording: America's Next Top Model
2007-12-08 13:59:02.580 INFO [5] Stopping existing recording on this capture source. (removing from currentlyRecording)
2007-12-08 13:59:02.580 VERBOSE [5] Stopping recording oid:3
2007-12-08 13:59:02.901 VERBOSE [5] RecordingFactory.save()
2007-12-08 13:59:03.151 VERBOSE [5] Save(): Updated existing scheduled recording
2007-12-08 13:59:03.151 VERBOSE [5] Adding D:\Americas Next Top Model\Americas Next Top Model_20071208_14001500.mpg to commercial detection queue
2007-12-08 13:59:03.151 VERBOSE [5] Adding D:\Americas Next Top Model\Americas Next Top Model_20071208_14001500.mpg to conversion detection queue
2007-12-08 13:59:03.381 VERBOSE [5] Changing to channel (GBPVR.Backend.Common.NullTunerController): 63
2007-12-08 13:59:03.381 VERBOSE [5] Requesting IRecordingSource to start recording: D:\Americas Next Top Model\Americas Next Top Model_20071208_13001400-2.mpg

What seems to have happened is that right after starting the 2:00 recording, gbPVR stopped and recorded a 2 minute show called Americas Next Top Model_20071208_13001400-2.mpg. Consequently, the recording for the 2-3 PM show is about 3 seconds long, and I have this orphan 2 minute recording. Is this related to having a new second card? I have the same EPG for both cards, so I'm surprised that the recording on 1 card was stopped instead of running the 2-minnute recording on the second card.

Thanks for any help!

Later today I had another occurence of a scheduled recording being stopped in favor of a 2-minute standalone recording of a previous show. Poking around, I discovered that there were 3 identical items in the Reoccuring section of gbPVR's Recordings section, all for this show. I use EWA for my scheduling, and I remember that it had hung when I first tried to schedule the show, so I waited a while and scheduled it later. Don't know if this is the cause of my difficulties, but I thought I'd mention it. I'll see if having cleared out the 2 redundant sheduled items fixes things.
Cheers!

I'm sure that would cause a few unexpected behaviours...
