I wonder if other folks on the forum have seen this...
On some GB-PVR recordings (over-the-air ATSC), the audio stream's codec is not identified correctly when I try to post-process the file in some way: transcode it to another format, or write it to a DVD. The codec should be identified as ac3, but instead is identified as "0x0000." This seems to be related to the ffmpeg program, and to utilities that use ffmpeg as a backend. When I submit such files to ffmpeg, I see the "unknown audio codec" error. If I let ffmpeg proceed with processing, the result will be a correctly transcoded video stream coupled with a silent audio stream.
Mencoder (at least the special version modified by Babgvant) does not seem to have this behavior and will identify the ac3 codec in cases where ffmpeg will not.
This situation is an annoyance because I can not simplydrag a bunch of dvr-ms files into ConvertXtoDVD and expect all of them to work. Some may have silent audio tracks after conversion to DVD, and others will be correct. One particular broadcast channel in my area seems to be uniquely suceptible to this problem. I don't recall seeing it occur on the dvr-ms recordings of other channels.
This isn't really a comment on GB-PVR, but rather on some difficulties in working with the program's dvr-ms output. I've seen some anecdotes on the web related to the 0x0000 audio codec id, so I believe I'm not the only one. Anybody on the forum seen this, and have a work-around?
