what does the mode button do?

Hi, this may be a silly question, but what exactly does the mode button in the recordings plugin do? Its not mentioned in the wiki.

Tryu it and see, but I'm sure if changes the display from list to thumbnail list, to filmstrip view.

I think you used to be able to have folder.jpg in the recordings folder to display an image for the series.
