MCE Remote wont work

My mom recently bought a laptop that had an mce remote and transceiver included. I am attempting to use the remote/transceiver on my gbpvr box (windows XP Pro /w Media Center).

The device is recognized by the OS as an eHome transceiver and shows no problems but when i try to use the mce remote to traverse through GB nothing happens. In fact the remote does not work in Media Center either.

Are there some special drivers or applications that i must also install to get the MCE remote to work?

Im thinkinig that maybe the remote/transceiver combo only works with hardware included in the laptop it originally came with.

sounds like it installed ok
does the led light up on the receiver when buttons are pressed
it should just work straight out of the box(once usb plug is plugged in )
what operating systerm did the laptop have on it ?

If the remote control is one with a small LCD built into it, then it has to be "registered" with the PC to work. I think the PC has to have bluetooth or something for it to work because I tried the same thing and even bi-directional IR didn't enable it to register. I got a regular MCE remote off e-bay (one without an LCD screen) to get it working.

The laptop had windows xp media center. The remote does not have an lcd on it. The LED on the receiver lights up whenever any IR device is used (including the MCE remote).

Ive continued to play with the remote but still have had no success getting the OS or GB to recognize IR commands.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Post #43 is the one with the meat.

It may not be the same problem because your drivers installed. If you had the "vista only" transceiver then they shouldn't have installed at all.
