Not sure if this problem is because my card is not supported and I am using my own graphs. It seems that the WDM drivers are not initialized when I first start GBPVR as neither preview nor record work. However, WINDVR came with my card and if I start WINDVR first, then GBPVR also works fine. To further test this I downloaded MediaPortal. It starts fine and again GBPVR works fine after MediaPortal has been used.
Can I somehow tell GBPVR to intialize, or is there any other way without having to use another PVR first?

I'm not aware of any steps that needs to be done to initialize the drivers. The device drivers are supposed take card of this sort of things behind the scenes when you use the device. Do you have any information on this initialization you think is required?

This isnt a problem with supported cards. It sounds like you're using the GraphRecorder plugin or something similar, so its most likely that plugin is creating the correct graphs or something similar, rather than a GB-PVR problem.

I know that WINDVR is using a manifest.exe file, I believe to upate the registry.

I'm pretty sure that is nothing to do with your capture device.

I can't tell which drivers or graph WINDVR is using as it doesn't use the running object table. Do you know if there is a way of detecting what it is using?

No. Most apps hide this type of thing from users.

I have tried using sysinternals to catch what it is doing on startup, but there way too much output to be of any use. I know which codecs it is using. Does that help any?

No. To be honest, I do doubt you'd see anything useful in sysinternals.

I'm pretty sure it'll be a case of the GraphRecorder plugin you're using not creating its graph correctly. You'd save yourself a lot of hassle by using a supported card, like one of the common Hauppauge ones.

sub, many thanks for your help. I did pose the same question in the graphrecorder forum without any success. GBPVR has been the best PVR I have seen, including the commercial offerings. I guess I should have been more selective in my card choice. Thanks again.

When the graphrecorder plugin is used, GB-PVR doesnt ever touch the card, or even know which card its using, so its not really a GB-PVR problem. Sorry.
