is it possible to have the Fast Forward button work in steps, hit once and go 15 secs, hit twice and go 30 seconds, hit 3 times and 1 minute, 4= 3 minutes, 5=10minutes etc?

the current system just doesn't work with a conventional remote

You may not be aware of how the current scheme works, so I'll briefly descibe it.

If you press skip it'll jump forward a minute. If you press some numbers then skin, it'll jump forward that number of minutes. ie 8-skip will jump 8 minutes.

The FF button jumps 10 seconds.

These should work fine with any remote.

Sorry, its unlikely I'll change this. I like the way it currently works. I very really end up using the FF button though, and find myself using the Skip functionality instead.

when i first started using MP, the graduated skipping really stood out as being a better way of navigating, it almost seemed intuitive.

As long as it can send Ctrl-RightArrow (Skip) or Ctrl-F (FF), and the number keys, then it should be able to work with the current setup.
