Yes, it protects at the category level.
Me too!

  • The 'Plugin' tab, allows you to turn the feature on/off, and to set the password.
  • See the 'Settings(2)' tab, 'Available categories list' for the individual category settings. For each category, there is a check box that allows password protection.
OK, I see see check box now. It must be that if a movie is in a protected category, it wont show up in any other category either.....makes sense.

Quote:No, if there are no new movies, the "What's New" should not show up.
OK, I put a new movie on the disc and it didn't show up .... I forgot, I have to load it into the DB first. Once you watch a movie, does it move out of the Whats New category?
Quote:Archive The 'Archive' directories relate to the Sync function. They are a list of archive locations that you'd move your recordings to. When you do a Sync, if a move is not found at the location in the db, it will scan for that movie in the Archive areas, if found, it will update the entry to the new location.

OK....so this lets you move files around and get the DB updates. You just have to tell it where to look. Sounds good.
Quote:
B]Hidden[/B] is an attribute of a movie. In a sync, if a movie is NOT found, it can be marked as 'hidden' so it will not show up in the plugin list (see the Plugin Settings tab, Archive Locations section).

The hidden attribute is really only the title with @@ appended to the beginnng. You may display the hidden entries on the Manage Content tab by selecting the check box.

Do they show up with @@? When you check the "show hidden" button, do all the movies show up (not hidden + hidden) or just the hidden ones?

Quote:Offline is an attribute of a movie. Some users requested that rather than hiding an entry, it should be marked as 'offline' instead. They additionally wanted some sort of offline id for their cataloging needs. This id is strictly manually entered and has no real meaning to MovieWiz.

Like the Hidden attribute, Offline can be automatically set during a Sync if the movie is not found (see the Plugin Settings tab, Archive Locations section).

I see it shows up the DB listing as offline, then you can manually add an ID. Hmmm...wonder what they do with it then? How does that help?

Anyway, I really appreciate that explanation. Helps alot. I think I almost have what I need.

Yes (and no), check the Plugin Settings tab, checkbox "Remove from What's New after Viewed."
  • checked - once played (even if you don't watch the whole thing) it is removed,
  • unchecked - it stays there until the # of days expire.

not hidden + hidden (ie all movies)

I believe this was for their DVD collection, and it was a position with their archive (ie bookcase & shelf???)

I just wanted to give you an update, things are going much better. I have actually reinstalled GBPVR and the plugin a few times because I have been swizzling around machines and discs again. Everything is working OK.
A couple comments/questions:
1. I had a little trouble with the sync function because I didn't realize I had to match the original path with my sync directory. I originally just set the archive directory path to H: and it needs to be H:/Videos/24 for example. Seemed odd because there is a button to search subdirectories...but makes sense because it simplifies things. Another wierd thing happenned - I was changing sync directories and resyncing, but the above path didnt work. THen I closed everything and reopened the config program and it worked. Just FYI...
2. I was marking things "offline", but I changed to hidden after reading another post. Then I used "delete hidden" to get rid to them. It would be nice to have an option to list just the hidden movies in the DB to confirm what they are. Otherwise, you have to search thru the whole DB.
3. Last, it would be nice to have MovieWiz automatically "Locate New Content" one way or another. I periodically add movies to the DB and it would nice if they showed up without having to run the config program all the time. Actually, I just found MovieWiz Manager so that saves a little time....its good because it doesnt stop the service. I couldnt update the DB when my kids where using the MediaMVP before!
4. My most imporant thing to me after I load the video into the DB is to get an image file so my kids can recognize it....plus its the coolest visual. Sometime it come it fine automagically, sometimes not. The lookup detail and lookup images function is very nice. I don't get why it doesn't always find the images though.....for example, "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (2008)", it found the detail, but no image. I went to imdb and downloaded the image as a .jpg and used lookup image to get it. Sometimes I would choose any "detail" option if I knew it had an image associated with it. If the lookup detail could show the associate image, that would be nice. Actually, if it was a hyperlink that would be even better, save going to the browser and looking each one up.

Not that you dont have other things to do.....great program and support..where do I donate?

Great, glad things are working better now.

The subdirectories option should have handled the H:, I'll take a look. Also, changing dirs and resyncing should work also. If you have concrete examples and log files, it will help locate the problem.

Good idea, Maybe if the 'Show Hidden' check box is checked, it will ONLY show the hidden entries. I'll see about changing that.

It's not automatic, but you can enable import in the plugin itself. Take a look at the config 'Plugin Settings' Tab for 'Enable Recordings Import'. If enabled, you can use the Red remote button, or Ctrl-R to trigger an import/load new recordings into the db.

If, on the Settings(1) tab, you have default lookup locations, you can also have it look in these default location(s) for additional entries.

When I tried the above example (I named a file The Chronicles of Narnia Prince Caspian (2008).avi) it found both the metadata and the image. I may have some fixes in my version that you don't have, so that may be it. Make sure you have the most current versions of the plugin AND the WizDLLs.

No donations neccessary Smile. I do this for fun (since I don't get to do it at my real job anymore) and am not expecting any compensation...
