comskip won't auto skip...?

Hi all,

I am in the UK and think comskip works well, does not always get it right but its a great idea.

Upon recording a show and playing bakc in GBPVR I get the dark green section in the light green timeline to show the skipped adverts but it does not seem to auto skip unless you watch the whole show.

If you move to a section a few minutes before the comskip mark then it plays the adverts too and seems to ignore the dark green comskip start and stop points.

I have check alot of posts on the forum and cannot find why this happens. I am running the latest version of GBPVR and have auto-skip ticked in the config and allow comskip to generate its data after the recording has finsished.

All this works a treat and all the required files are generated including the 2 text files, the EDL file and the .logo file.

Why does it now always skip?

Any replies would be greatly appreciated folks.

squareeyessam, can you check that in config, on the Misc page you have "Auto-skip commercials..." checked?

I also seem to remember something about enabling/disabling this feature on the fly during playback by hitting 999.

Also, can you try fast forwarding into a dark green section and hitting play again?

Auto-Skip is checked in the config so that is ok.
hitting 999 does enable and disable the feature turning the advert section grey to disable and then dark green again to enable.
When the adverts are on you can indeed hit CONTROL&P which takes you to the end of the adverts - so that is fine too- but it does not auto skip.

The autoskip does not seem to work if you move to a point in the recording then wait until the adverts arrive.

Might let comskip mark up the adverts with the on the fly option but prefer it to be done at the end of the recording as it seems todo a better job.

Anyone else got any hints as to why it is not working correctly?

I find comskip works perfectly for me. The only thing that's even close to what you seem to describe is when I back up into the commercial, or to a point just before it. In that case, it seems to think I want to watch the commercial, which is usually true! I've been using comskip for about a year now, and am still amazed at how good it works.

I really like marking on the fly, and find no difference between that and post processing. FYI, I do all my comskip processing in parallelprocessing.bat. I leave config set to not do comskip.

Right. I wasn't complaining - I like this behaviour. I'm constantly amazed at how good the comskip analysis is. I know it's heresy, but sometimes I really want to watch a commercial.

Nice one Sub, I hadnt realised that GBPVR and comskip work together to decide you only moved back in the timeline because you missed something hence not auto skipping the adverts.

I just tested it and it all works.

Maybe I missed something on the wiki but it may be worth adding something into the comskip section to say something like....

Upon playback of recorded material, comskip will automaticly jump past the adverts (if auto-skip is enabled in config) providing the progress arrow has not already passed into the darkened advert section at any point.
Moving the progress arrow through the adverts and then back to a point before them will result in GBPVR assuming there was something recorded that you wanted to see and not skip therefore letting you view the adverts.
In order to reset GBPVRs knowledge that you have rewound through to before the adverts you must exit the recording then re-open the playback.
