Today I tried ZProcess for the first time as my wife wants to watch home videos of our small children with sound on our MVP's on GB-PVR. I am running version 1.3.11. I followed the instructions on the wiki for installing ZProcess (including MVPScreenPosition).

When I then started the MVP the interface was corrupt, with buttons shifted and the screen black. Finding a video was difficult and playing it would result in the MVP re-booting, even with the sorry mpeg in the correct place.

I then tried the pre-release version with the same results.

Deleting the ZProcess files and clearing the registry has repaired the interface problems but now trying to play an avi reboots the MVP. Tonight I will re-install gb-pvr to restore the functionality I had before trying ZProcess.

Does anyone have any ideas what I may have done wrong?

Did you replace the default Trans2MVP with the one provided with Zprocess? If you did, you probabl need to put back a backed-up copy back in your gbpvr folder.

Whilst installing ZProcess backed up Trans2MVP and used the one Zehd provides. When removing it I deleted the ZProcess version and reverted to the original.

Thanks for the reply

Hi...

First, the replacement Trans2MVP is only necessary to be copied if you are transcoding dvr-ms

Second, ZProcess does nothing to currupt a display. If the menu is messed, it's not ZProcess.

My thinking is that something is wrong with MVPScreenPosition. You're in PAL land. What are your settings? Maybe I can help. Maybe someone else in PAL land can confirm PAL settings for MVPScreenPosition

Also, have you changed any settings using the Hauppauge software?

Entirely unlrealted to the symptoms you described, but worth asking, what are the type of files that you are trying to watch...?

Hi Frank,

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm not at home right now so can't confirm the MVPScreenPosition settings I used but to be honest they weren't as specified in the wiki

In the config.xml use these values:
Width: 720
Height: 480 (PAL users: 576)
X Offset: 0
Y Offset: 0

Mainly because my TV's aren't widescreen, from memory I had

Width: 640
Height: 580
X Offset: 44
Y Offset: 40

Even through the menu corruption I could get MVPScreenPosition running on the MVP and these numbers just filled the screen (a few pixels missing from the yellow box at the edge of the screen).

The first time I have installed the Hauppauge s/ware was yesterday to change the screen size to 16:9 as suggested in the wiki.

I was trying to play avi's, I have some made with a digital camcorder that work fine across the network but some captured from an old video tape via an Aver card that play fine in any media player (MS, gb-pvr, nero) on all the PC's i've tried but when playing via the MVP through gb-pvr I get no sound. That's basically why I decided to try ZProcess.

I think I read in another thread that the new pre-release version of ZProcess doesn't require MVPScreenPosition, is this so?

I am prepared to try ZProcess again on saturday but have a couple of questions:

Should I start by editing config.xml with an entry for each MVP and the screen size/ positions suggested in the wiki?

When I run ZProcess/ ZTranscode for the first time and answer the questions do I have to leave them running? If so do I need to add anything to my startup programs?

Just going back to the menu corruption problem, to uninstall ZProcess I ran the bat file to unregister and then deleted the files from the third party directory, I then reverted to the saved Trans2MVP and restarted the PC. Upon reconnecting the MVP to the PC the interface worked normally.

I think I have see the problem...

In PAL, your dimensions cannot exceed 720 x 576
You add the width to the x offset and height to the y offset

With what you think you entered, it was 688x620 where the y axis has exceeded the 576...

I would leave the Width and X alone and try Height 576 and Y Offset of 0 just to see what happens. I'm sure that at least you won't have screen corruption

No what you read was: it was intended that MVPScreenPosition would be an optional component. Then I thought something was wrong and thought it was not. Then I realized that it does work, if used correctly...

That said, I still beleieve that you SHOULD use MVPScreenPostion and only work with the PreRelease

Quote:Should I start by editing config.xml with an entry for each MVP and the screen size/ positions suggested in the wiki?

Are you using the default dongle?

You should do exactly what the wiki says. Edit the config to create a MAC address for your MVP. Put in the default values of 720, 576, 0, 0 and then shape the rectangle from the MVP. Take notes, then edit the config again with the new values. (My experience is that I don't really care for using the plugin in the gb-pvr config)

WHEN the screen looks OK and you see all your menu, (not cut off), and when recorded MPGs play back with out a problem, try ZProcess.

One thing that you haven't mentioned you have had success nor failure is the adding of references to your config.xml...

It should be happening automatically, and would only tell you that it's happening.

The complete uninstall method is:
RemoveAllZProcess
In ZProcess, GB-PVR Settings, click remove refs. Close ZProcess

Done. You don't actually have to delete any software. If you want, remove the ZTools folder.

No, ZProcess does not have to run from startup, or in background. You should know that nothing needs to be done if installed correctly. Gb-pVR will call it when needed

  1. Install and configure MVPScreenPosition

  2. Copy Files into ZTools folder (including MEncoder RC2 into its default folder)

  3. Run ZProcess, answer questions, allow service to reboot. ZProcess should be closing on its own. If not close it.

  4. Open ZTranscode, open your avi file. Click start. Click 'View Output' Do you see a picture, hear sound? What's your FPS?

  5. Next test with MVP.
