ok, heres what I did.

I uninstalled the CS 4.0.2 ws
I uninstalled the CS 4.0.2 sd
checked the skin and skin2 directory to delete the CS subdirectories but they were already gone.
rebooted.
Installed the CS 4.02 ws version only
Did no other changes and tried it.
it did the same thing.
I put the
C:\Program Files\Devnz\GBPVR\skin\Community-WS\xrecord\..\..\..\Skin2\Community-WS\_CoreImages\Detail_Selected.png
file into a Start->Run box and sure enough explorere poped up with the graphic.

Should have read Fatman_do's post before I wrote all that.

Ok, I'll await 4.0.3

If I compare the WS HD skin.xml file that dshoup posted with the one in the community skin I got from the wiki they are identical. Other than the crash, does the community skin fix your blocky fonts isgdre? Hopefully 4.0.3 will address the crash.

If it does, maybe we can make a blue skin that fixes the block fonts too by looking at the CS4 skin.

Oh I was so hopping the new V1.4.7 and the Community Skin 4.04 would fix my font horible problems. I was so hopping it would fix it I uninstalled. Deleted the devnz directory completely and reinstalled. But... No luck. fonts are as crappy as ever and now the "Ready" button crashes when I click it.

Not the biggest problem in the world since I can't much use it becuse of the font issue. but I thought I would send along a log message that I think is causing the problem. Any Idea's? Any fix to the font issue?

I uploaded a new version that should hopefully fix the Ready screen crash (thanks for the logs of the crash). I'm no expert on skinning but I thought you figured it out here. I think you'd have a better chance getting a solution on the community skin thread. This is only on Windows 2000 right?

The last swing at this made the unreadable.... well... readable. but still quite crappy. I would upload a new screen shot but it's not much different from the first one. Using the community skin I am also able to increase the size of the font and that helps as well.

it's slow to read at times as you have to figure out the letters but it is almost allways doable now.

I would hazzard a guess that it's twice as good as it was.

and...
Yes, I'm using an old Windows 2000 Licence.
Computer is a ADM Sempron 2600 with gobs of memory... (Ok gobs for win2k 2 gig)

I downloaded the new version and installed it. Ready didn't crash. :-) Thanks.

Could the problems with the skin be due to the use of the Skin/* style and not the Skin2/* style?

is it hard to update?

I think fact that XRecord is a legacy plugin (skin instead of skin2) causes the fonts to look slightly less sharp for all XRecord users using PVRX2. The screenshot you shared is so terrible, it must be something else. Maybe Win2000 is missing the fonts the skin is using and uses a lower resolution font instead then scales it up.

If you have access to another Windows machine with something newer than Win2000, you could temporarily install gbpvr and XRecord just to see what the fonts look like. The solution is probably to modify the skin to use a font that Win2000 has or install the missing fonts on Win2000.

I think converting a legacy plugin like XSuite to use the new PVRX2 plugin API and skin format is a pretty big job.

Good to know the Ready screen crash is fixed. Smile

I think Fla is correct about the font. I changed mine to Arial and it works pretty well. Still not as crisp as other utilities, but very readable.
