Does anyone have experience with using a really old computer as a standard-def-only client?

The candidate is a 1.4 gHz P4 machine with 2 GB of RAM and W2K. It's already in the family room as the "piano machine."

Fuzzweed, your processor is more than twice as fast.

Soccerdad, as far as video out, I don't know. It has a Matrox card with no S-video out, so that would have to be replaced.

I'm hoping to get some reports of success with machines in this speed category, before doing all the work. I have it running on an Asus 780G motherboard, which would be the server.

just get 9550 ati card for it and it should be fine thats what i use on my client
previous to that had 6200 nvidia but it died
as long as the card can do dirextx9 it should be fine
so if you have anything free laying around try it
dont seem to be to many other agp card left on the market so the choice is limited

My brother used a Pentium 233mhz with GBPVR back in the day. But, GBPVR is more advanced now and requires more oomph. I just think it's amusing to mention a wimpy P233mhz nowadays is all.

Never heard much good about ATI all-in-wonders for HD. I had an SD one. Worked fine, but never used it with GBPVR.
I bet Michael Bay uses GBPVR because it's awesome:
