Sometimes when I use LiveTV it plays fine with no stutter and my network monitor on Vista (Reliability and Performance Monitor) indicates about 1MBytes per second are being received by the Vista client.

Sometimes, however, the LiveTV stutters terribly and is virtually unviewable, and the network use is about 3.7MBytes per second.

Why this difference. This is with no config changes between readings. It seems to be random whether it uses 3.7 or 1 MB, why?

My network between teh client and the server is a power cable network with a claimed thruput of 200Mbits/sec and should be able to make 7MBytes/sec. I'd really like to use this over wireless, but clearly wont be able to do that whilst this problem remains.

Anyway, the main problem is why its so inconsistent in its network utilisation.

Just had a case were PVRX2 started at about 1 MByte/sec and then after 6 minutes went up to 3.2 MBps.

I've attached a log file from the server. The bandwidth useage increased at 19:06:41 on 16th April. My server and client clocks are synced to within 3 seconds.

I cant find any logs for the client

This is really ruining my enjoyment of use of GBPVR, so please help ASAP.

This could have to do with the powerline adapters, ie its not a dedicated line like a network cable would be and there could be some performance issues. I am by no means an expert, but logically i am thinking you should run a test where it is connected via the network directly to the router/switch without the powerline. I realize this might be difficult, but also know that poweline technologie while a good idea is also not flawless, as it is dependant on the wiring in the house as well as performance related issues based where they are located with in the house.

Yes it has a theoretical limit of 200mbs but it might not be able to achieve that. I tried to use them from one room to the other and i was only able to connect at 9mb so it wasnt much help for streaming video but everything else was fast.

I dont think thatst he point really.

The amount of data being trasferred along the network increases from 1MBps to 3.2 MBps. Or more usually it starts out at 3.2MBps.

At 3.2MBps its is stuttery and unusable.

My point is simply to say that that 3.2MBps might be too much for the netowrk to handle and would cause the stuttering, so i still think it is relevant even though it doesnt answer why the spike is occuring, i know that sub has mentioned that gbpvr is heavy on the network and recommend using wired, and while you are using a somewhat wired network there is still the potential for latency and other issues if the poweline is not running at its full potential

Sorry i cant answer the root of the question

But it sometimes works fine and only uses 1MBps, so why cant it always work at just 1MBps. It clearly doesnt need 3.2MBps some of the time - it plays for 10 or 20 minutes or longer at just 1MBps sometimes. What is causing it to need (so much) more bandwidth?

Also, the best I can get is the powerline network - wireless is hopeless and I cant run cables, so I'm stck with the powerline, and it should work.

Recorded video works just fine using PVRX2

I can't answer your question regading network utilisation but many people have experienced problems trying to get live tv working on the client.

This thread is worth a read, especially Sub's post in #3
