Perhaps someone can help me here. I'm looking to move from my Nebula setup which has served me well for years. One question is puzzling me about GBPVR.

With my existing setup, I have always been able to record several channels at once from my two DVB tuners while watching live TV, e.g. watch BBC1 while recording BBC2 and ITV. So long as I don't need more than two multiplexes on the go at once I am OK.

I know GBPVR will record more than one channel at once from a single multiplex with a single tuner but the documentation seems to suggest that watching live TV takes up the whole of a tuner and any recording at all, even from the same multiplex, has to be on a different tuner... which would make the above example impossible to achieve with just two tuners.

Is that the case?

... or I suppose I could add a third tuner.

Thanks.

you have it right you will need a third tuner
or just record the other program and watch it while it records is all i do then delete it after
i never watch live so its not really a problem

Yes, it seems a bit of an anomaly. You can record say BBC1, BBC2 on one mux and ITV on another (with twin tuners) but you can's "watch" from teh TV guide one of the recording shows - although you can from the pending menu.
As mentioned, if I want to watch an additional "live" tv show, I have to start recording it and watch it as an in progress recording.

sub has stated that being able to watch liveTV in Timeshift mode using Multi-record is possible (all that is required is appropriate logic), and that he does plan to implement it. However, Preview Mode livetv will never be possible with multi-record.

As the others pointed out, the simple workaround for now is if you want to watch something else on mux that is in use, just just hit Quick Rec and then watch the recording in progress. It's effectively the same as timeshift live-tv, except that you'll have to delete the recording yourself later.
