Can WinTV make divx recordings?

Will also play most standard DivX movies*

is this correct? I have never owned one but I thought that the MVP could only natively playback MPEG video files.

gEd is right.
1- Wintv doesn't make divx recordings.
2- MVP's only play mpeg. If you want to play divx (avi) then they have to be transcoded. That can be done on the fly (while watching) or in advance.
The succes of this operation depends on the computer you have (as server) and on the format you are trying to transcode.
