Library Controls - which to use?

I'm planning on starting work on a new plugin soon and currently considering options for the framework.

What is the plan for WizTools and the GBPVRLibrary and what would be involved with adding to them if I came across a metadata or control class that I'd like to use but doesn't exist yet?

Also, are there any docs on the GBPVRLibraryy? One of the things I liked about the the WizTools package was the docs for the skelton plugin and how it was very 'framework' based. What the overall goal / plan for the GBPVRLibraryand how does it fit in to the current GB-PVR plugin framework?

Excellent question, I am wondering the same thing.

All the talk for the common libraries has seem to come to a halt, and nothing has really been done.

gbpvrlibrary is completely open source, and anyone can make changes to it (well, i have to give you write access, but you just need to ask for it).

the metadata in gbpvr library is pretty good atm, it supports thetvdb, moviedb, and imdb. moviedb and imdb are configured through a xml file and you can add more sources (like ofdb) to it via that xml file, no code changes should be needed.

i need to write some docs for the gbpvrlibrary, but there hasnt been much interest in it, so its been pretty low priority. and as a programmer i obviously hate writing documentation

the overall goal for the gbpvrlibrary is to be that, a library of utils, metadata, uicontrols and anything else that would be helpful in writing plugins (eg someone may wish to add a cd ripping class). but my main focus for it atm is uicontrols, metadata and helper utils.

i have also been pondering the idea of shoving "Videos" plugin into the library, and having a few community based plugins that benefit from multiple programmers. just the standard plugins really, videos, music, pictures, tvguide? but thats open for discussion.

Interesting. A DB driven Pictures plugin is what I'm looking to start on. Something like a service or tray app which monitors and scans set directories and then a plugin which is basically a photos browser with tags/albums/sort by date/slideshow features. How does this fit with the library and the Videos plugin? I would be interested in how you're populating and managing the database I assume you're using?

Also, I notice the uicontrols in the library are all quite advanced (popups, keypads etc), for buttons and lists I guess you still use the ones provided by sub?

Finally, Is JavaWiz onboard? Is this superseding the WizTools library?

videos is mostly db driven now, but also allows you to view by files. but i rather hold off before putting any actual plugin into the library until videos is released (im just trying to get a mysql installation on unraid before i go any further)

I would be interested in how you're populating and managing the database I assume you're using?

atm im using linq and a sql server db (works with express, full or compact). but like im said im looking into mysql as well, so i may change to just the standard DbConnection and sql strings. ill see how well the mysql to linq library works.

no im using my own "ListView" control, i really should put it in the library, and will, im just waiting to finalize the look and feel of it (recently i converted it to look/feel more like boxee).
