FYI: build 9 is out.
- Added new launch executable for NowRecording, StopRecording, StopPreview.
- Added extra parameters (fullname, filename, filenamewithoutextension , extension, directoryname, etc).
- Each step gets its own set of executable with parameters.
- Made hiding of the recorder optional.

Could you explain what this new capability actually does and how it works? Maybe a simple example? I couldn't find anything in the readme.txt file.

Could you clarify what effect checking this box will have. Different media players display different things at run time. Would this mean that the player no longer has focus in preview mode and that remote control commands configured for that player would no longer work?

(BTW - the ExternalRecorder wiki page seems to have lost its formatting. The text no longer wraps so each paragraph extends off into infinity.)

Added new launch executable for NowRecording, StopRecording, StopPreview: You can now run different programs to start and stop recording, previously you only had an option of running stuff to start recording (preview and non-preview modes). You now have the option to run something once the recording has started, and to stop recording.

Made hiding of the recorder optional: during recording the launched program was hidden, so that it didn't pop up and show it self. This option disables that mode, if for any reason you want to see the recorder in progress.

Ok - being a bit thick here, I realize, but can I just make sure I've got it straight? NowRecording and StopRecording allow me to run additional programs to, for instance, manipulate the recorded stream while it is being recorded and post-process it after the recording has completed. I'm assuming the second set of "Start Preview Executable" and "Start Preview Parameters" on the ExternalRecorder config panel should, in fact, read "Stop Preview......." and pertain to a program that would be run when the stream player has been terminated in preview mode. (Wondering what this would be used for.)

Also, although the config screen says that {channelnumber} should be used for the channel number, I notice that this does not actually get resolved but that {channel} still works (as before). Can I assume that {channel} will remain the correct token to use? And that it will continue to refer to the Capture Source channel number rather than the GBPVR channel number?

I'm anxious to get some clarity here since I'm trying to ensure that the UbuStream plugin will work with v9 but still be backwardly compatible with v7 and v8. Currently, I've only tested with v7.

Excellent! This could be very handy for debugging.

I know you're busy on other projects as well as this one, so thanks for your time in fielding these questions.

Woops, you're right. I guess I missed some labels.

Stop preview can be used to close the program you were using to watch TV with. Useful for people with remotes that only control GB-PVR.

You're correct: the info says {channelnumber}, but it means {channel} - I was hoping to add {channelname}, but it's much harder than it sounds. Hopefully {directoryname} will have to do.

Channel number will always be CaptureSource number (it's what gets passed into the plugin). There's currently no way to get the GB-PVR channel number (which is why channelname remains missing).

I have two GBPVR's one with OTA HD and one with Regular cable.

What I would like to do is to setup the HD GBPVR to be able to make the cable GBPVR start streaming a channel to watch live TV. This would allow my wife to surf both HD and Regular cable from the same GBPVR system.

Can I do this with External Recorder?

Thanks.

Thanks, that may work and I will look into it.

I would rather have the gbpvr channel database on the "client machine" than on the "capture machine" though.

What I really want is the ability to have multiple gbpvr's, each with a customized channel list, to leverage the same capture source.

I envison defining a "network capture source" where the gbpvr sends the channel information to the "capture PC" and that PC streams the capture information back to the gbpvr that requested it. This would allow me to have a "kids channel" list and a "wife channel list" and a "husband channel list". Each in its own GBPVR installation.

I think that gbpvr can not do this currently support this, so I may put in a wishlist request.

Thanks.
