I had a power outage last night. Now the MVP will be stuck at lodaing application, contacting DHCP server.
When I installed GB-PVR I went to services and stopped all the hauppauge software.
I got everythig working by restarting the hauppauge software and powering up the MVP. Then turning off the hauppauge software again.
Is this an issue of not having a DHCP server?

Don't know why you'd be stuck on the dhcp option; if your MVP is on a router that's doing dhcp on its own, that should almost always work unless they're having trouble.

If you power down the MVP by pulling the plug, you do have to re-run the Hauppauge software so it can load the MVP application before you shut down that service again and let GBPVR use the hauppauage application (that is, the application on the MVP itself) to display the GBPVR menu.

As far as I can tell the startup process for the MediaMVP works like this:

1) Try to DHCP for an address for a while.
IF FAILS, STEP 2, IF SUCCEEDS, STEP 3
2) Try assuming a 192.123.1.1 network (see Hauppauge docs), resume on step 3)
IF FAILS, LOOP TO STEP 1, IF SUCCEEDS, STEP 3
3) Send broadcast packet to local network looking for Hauppauge MediaMVP server
4) Receive reply from MVP server, load linux application code onto the MVP (easier than firmware updates!Wink
5) Once the new application code is loaded, reload the device (notice the network interface blink) with the new code, and connect to the MediaMVP application server

Now here's where it gets interesting. If you power off the MVP with the remote (leave it plugged in), the application stays loaded on the device, and at power up it will resume on step 5 each time, connecting to the PC for whatever menus and screens to display. This is where you can either run the MVP interface, or the GBPVR MVP interface.

I assume most folks here already know most of this (and I'm hoping it's all correct!Wink, but it might be a good explanation for newbies.

.

I must of explained something wrong last time. My complete house lost power. So basicly I unpluged my MVP.
What I realy wanted to ask is if every time I lose power to the MVP do I have to use the Hauppauge to reinstall the Linux software?
So GB-PVR does not do this for me.

Correct. Every time the MVP is completely powered off you'll need to re-run the Hauppauge software to load the initial application on it.

I've only been playing with gbpvr and my mvp for a week or so now, so I could be wrong, I'm sure somebody will jump in and correct me if I'm wrong. But if there's a way to get gbpvr to do the initial application load, I've never figured out a way to do it!

I don't believe that is correct if you let GBPVR manage the MVP by using the "number of servers to autostart" option in the config app.

I believe that GB-PVR should do the entire load after power removal but I too have not been able to get it to work but about one out of every ten tries (when it doesn't work it seems to just lock up everything at the Application Load process).

I just keep the Hauppauge software loaded, and put the GB-PVR server in my windows startup folder. When I reboot the computer I run the Stop program from Hauppage and then GB-PVR runs normally.

If I lose power I restart the Hauppauge server until I get past the initial load and the basic Hauppauge software load. I then run the stop program from Hauppauge and launch the GB-Pvr server and all works well.

Not ideal but for my setup this works every time for me....

So if I unplug my MVP and plug it in it should auto start?
My MVP will not reboot unless I restart the Hauppauge software. What do I need to do to get this to auto start.
Every thing works fine on the computer end just not the MVP if it loses power.
