Hi,
I think my power adator has stopped working on my MVP, I have got another one but I want to check if the output is correct before I try it.

The original output is 6.0-7.5v = 2.15-1.7A

The one I was thinking of trying is 6vac 1000mA Max:6VA

Will this one work??

Thanks for any advice

Pete

I doubt it.
For a start the current is less and I think the MVP has a DC adapator rather than AC. Just a mo........ I can't read the details as the brick is tucked away behine the TV, but it is giving 6.3 volts DC at the plug - positive in the middle and negative the outer part.

Definitely not!
That sounds like an old style Nintendo adapter and it could (and probably would) damage the MVP. (everything about it is wrong) You basically need a 6 volt 2 amp D.C. power supply. If you're looking to repurpose something then a lot of old camcorder power adapters might work. The Sony 8mm camcorders used 7.5 volt 1.6 amp power supplies in case you have a dead one around.
Polarity is as mentioned above.

Thanks for the replys, good job I didn`t try it.

I`ll have to try and buy 1 today, I`ll try Maplin, fingers crossed they have 1

would this 1 work? you can select the output, and its DC

Thanks

That maplin one is only half an amp and ISTR that 2 amps is required.

The MVP is a network device that is basically "on" all of the time (even when it's "off"). It requires a good regulated power supply.

The only thing that I saw on Maplin's site that would work was this one: http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?Modu...3&doy=10m2

If the original is truly dead, then you could cut the cord and plug from it, just watch the polarity!

You can use a power supply with more amps than on the original. The MVP will only draw what it needs, but if it wants more than it can get, it causes troubles. So 1.7 A or more

Voltage is an important consideration. If the original says 6-7.5, look for that...

And (has it been stressed enough?) watch the polarity!!!

Thanks for the replys

I ended up buying this from Maplins

http://www.maplin.co.uk/Search.aspx?crit...ce=15&SD=Y

You can select the output from 3V to 12V and its got 2500mA so it is more than enough for the MVP

And it only cost £9.99

I have tried it and the MVP is working fine.

Thanks everyone for the advice, without it I would have probably fried my MVP

Thanks
