Probably not enough interest to do it, but you asked...

How about an on-screen keyboard where you just move the selection box around with the arrow keys, select OK to select the letter. Would have a space key, backspace, and clear button as well.

I would find that a lot easier than pressing numeric buttons 100 times, plus, my remote doesn't have the letters above the numbers, so I have to attempt to remember where each letter falls.

I liked the basic Search function as existed in GB-PVR. I liked being able to just select a letter from the menu and then scroll through the programs. Being able to do text entry was good too, but I'd like to see it do an on-the-fly search as you type. In other words, if you type "L" it jumps to the shows that start with "L"; then you add an "i" and you see the shows that start with "Li", and so on. Finally it'd be nice to have a simple way to do a "contains" search, so if I want to find shows for my son about air planes I can just type "air" and I'd get various results like Red Bull Air Races, Inside: Airshow, etc. (maybe GB-PVR did that, I don't recall)

One thing I'd like to ask for related to searching is the "Find All" function. It'd be nice to have that function available in as many places as possible, pretty much as a default part of any show details dialog. Whether it's from the TV guide, existing recording, recurring recording, pending recording, search result, etc., there's always a possible reason to want to Find All.

Also, all Search results (including Find All) should show whether a given instance of a show is set to record or not. I think GB-PVR's Find All didn't show that in some cases, and it was very frustrating.

Excellent suggestion.

I thought the GB-PVR search facility was great. Only extra, which may make it too busy would be to filter the search by genre. It is nice to be able to look through what is coming up in a more accessible way than the guide. Example being when you want to see if there are any good films coming up.

I would like to see some kind of partial matching.

For instance, if I'm looking for "The Big Bang Theory", I might start searching for "Big", not thinking the title actually starts with "The".

Not sure how you would do that with a remote control, but it would be nice to have the option for those of us who search and schedule from our computer keyboard.

GBPVR could do that. Not very (or at all) intuative, but on the 'search' screen just type something and it appears near the top of the screen and this is used as a substring search. With gbpvr you could use moby/cell type text entry from a MVP remote, sadly this bit went AWOL with pvrx2.
I use it a lot on a weekend to search for stuff to flag for recording in the coming week.
