I just installed NPVR to use with Hauppauge HD PVR 1212. However, I'm not sure where or how to get the TV Guide? What plugins or utilities do I need?

mc2xml is pretty widely used in the US to get xmltv listings. See http://mc2xml.110mb.com/

For now though a grabber like xmltv or mc2xml is still required; NPVR doesn't pull Schedules Direct natively yet.

MC2XML will grab TitanTV listings. I imagine other grabbers will too, but that's the one I happen to know about.

FWIW, using MC2XML, I've never been able to get the Titan service to work no matter what zip code I try in the states. It shows me an 'Error HL: -y' and closes.

to use the titantv service with mc2xml you need a 30 digit "UUID" code to work. If you do a search on it you can find all sorts of posts about it. If you have a valid UUID you need to set up a batch file to run mc2xml with command parameters to include this code. I think the media server applications that comes with some of the tuner cards will use the titantv service to get their listings. If you have one of those you need to use a network capture software to get the ID to include in the batch file.

I even found some old posts from the gbpvr forums when the free zap2it service was discontinued. Apparently titantv is pretty stringent on invalidating some codes if there are too many request using the same ID as they are supposed to be unique for each instance.

I get the same error when trying to run mc2xml with titantv. I looked up on titantv website, and there's thread on there stating that the 30 chars uuid is actually intended for eyetv and elgato and not mc2xml. It's a violation of titantv terms of use. I guess titantv is out.

oh, yeah, I'd forgotten about that with TitanTV; I used it for a very limited time two years ago before the UUID thing cropped up.

I couldn't find the UUID for Titan TV, so I investigated Zap2it.

I think I had to do a log in/registration there, which I can use as a TV guide, if I want.

Per advice from this site, I then wrote a simple batch file, RunZap2It.bat:
Rem add username and password
zap2xml.exe -u [your ""zap" email address here] -p [your "zap" password here]

info on that at: http://zap2xml.110mb.com/

I put it in C:\EPG\xmltv

Then you doubleclick on the batch to update the TV guide info and it makes an xmltv.xml file there. In theory, the Windows Scheduler can be used to automate this step, but I haven't done it yet.

In NPVR and GBPVR, you tell the program where to find xmltv.xml, and then periodically update it. But I don't remember WHERE to do that in NPVR..... That can also probably be automated.

It seems to work for me.
