I run NPVR on Windows 7 64 bit home edition.

This week NPVR failed to record 2 programmes and I discovered later that live tv was not working (received message that tuner was not active).

I then tried Media Center and received a similar message.

I checked the Programs and Features option in control panel , sorted by date and noted that Microsoft Silkverlight had either been installed or updated this week either as part of a MS update or by my wife when trying to access a website using IE

As I always use Firefox I can claim to be innocent !!.

Removing Silverlight and rebooting the machine appears to have resolved the problem.

Rule no. 1: NEVER let windows update automatically at will! (It may reboot in the middle of a recording)
Rule no. 2: Do NOT use the htpc for email or browsing the net. (And if you don't and everything works smoot you don't need to update windows)

:p

Silverlight should not affect your tuners at all. I run Silverlight on my HTPC because it is required for Netflix. I'm more inclined to think that just the reboot solved your issue and Silverlight is a red herring.

No

I am not that stupid.

The machine was rebooted a number of times before removing Silverlight.

I wasn't implying that. You didn't mention the reboots previously so I was guessing.
