no, the names don't have to match. however, at least in my case, I found that some of the names in the XMLTV file had changed slightly so that the mappings were no longer valid. my current epg source pre-pends a channel number to the channel name (which has nothing to do with the channel number within NPVR), and it was that channel number that changed. the channel numbers you assign to the channels in NPVR are not relevant here - they're only for your reference when using the program.
the first thing to do in any case, is to go into the channels screen in Settings and re-map your channels, even if the mappings appear to be ok - something may have channged that is non-obvious. then hit the Update EPG button and see if your listings reload.

Seems like i was the idiot here,

Went though as suggested to remap channels and it turned out i had some pointing to an old location where i used to have my XML file and others pointing to the new location. It seems to have updated fine now, so i will keep an eye out

thanks for the help

I've been out of town, but upon return I moved the EPG directory to a different location and remapped all the channels. Everything is working again. Not sure why the mapping got messed up, since I hadn't done anything and everything was working fine for months. Thanks for the help.
