1. A way to get a listing of all the Skins and Plugins that have an Auto Update XML file.

2. A way to get a listing of files that have had the auto update xml file recently changed since the last check.

3. The link to the XML file itself. That could be done as the attachment.

I've come up with the following at the wiki site:
1) A new category (AutoUpdate) holding wrapper text (containing new feature list eg) for the XML files, which would give us
(See example page at http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/AutoU...ummyPlugin)

2) an RSS feed (http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/AutoU...action=rss) where the client (the update manager plugin) can determine what files are new and

3) the RSS also attaches the XML file. Well, actually, to test it out I used an mp3 file Wink

So, now we need an RSS client. Give a shout when you want to test it out with xml files.

Hey thanks. When I get a few spare moments I may work on an API that can be used to pull the information down, that way the Appearance Manager, or other program could read the files and validate them against the schema before processing to make sure they worked.

Thanks for setting this up. Looks like the Wiki is using RSS 2.0, so I think I have the basis I need for pulling some of this information together. Unfortunately, I'm hip deep in a white paper and presentation I have to create for work, so it may be a bit before I get into this. I'll probably put together a very simple example XML though.

Bladder it looks like the Wiki doesn't allow uploading of files with the .XML extension. We can either use the .XML or come up with a new extension that is specific to the update, something like AUF for Auto Update File, or something like that.

Anyways, let me know what you setup as I have a bare minimum sample file marked up. I've attached a sample to this message.

Yes I know. I've been checking around what mime types that are supported (I think we'll use application/xml), and whenever the gbpvr wiki awakes (it's currently not responding) I'm going to allow .xml uploads.

Or are there any security risks with .xml?
AUF is already taken as an extension by a couple of programs so perhaps we should use GUF (GB-PVR Update Format)?

There shouldn't be any securty risks with straight XML as it's just a text format. GUF should work as well. For the time being if we can just enable the uploading of the XML mime type then we should be fine for some testing.

Thanks.

I've now enabled .guf. But since the response of the webserver still is sloooooow, I haven't been able to test it.

One thing, currently the attachment needs to have the same name as the page (that's why I put Attach:{$Name}.guf on the DummyPlugin page). So try and make a page for the BleepBloop, attaching BleepBloop.guf (whenever the webserver wakes up...)

Theoretically, you don't need the Attach: link at all, if there is an uploaded file with the name <Page>.guf it will be included, but I think it's kind of nice to show it on the page and thereby making it possible to download it manually.

I agree that it is nice to have it on the page, and that way it can also be downloaded for testing purposes during development as well.

Anways, looks like the dummy.guf is up and working, so I just need to new get some time to do some basic retrieval code of the RSS feeds, and processing the XML file as well.
