Is the dvr-ms format supported in the video library playback function ? This format seems to to work using software decoder setup in gbpvr however not with xcard playback. Just get a blank screen with the progress OSD indicating 0, any ideas ?

Does the XCard natively support DVR-MS? I don't recall that it does....

Playback work when using the sigma designs xmedia player. Perhaps a splitter/demux problem with gbpvr. From what I understand dvr-ms is essentially mpeg2 with some extra header tags.

Yes, the codec is MPEG2 based, but the differences make it unreadable with standard MPEG2 decoders. Perhaps the XMedia Player is parsing and converting the headers for standard MPEG2 use. You may be correct, that with the proper filter/s, compatability could be obtained....
