Cool Smile

I have written to Spotify in order to get their opinion on NMT as an extender. I hope they will get back to me soon...
Hope they can see that there is no difference in using the NMT as front-end instead of a client computer, if they do I will most certainly install the next version in which you have implemented support for NMT Wink

Good news Smile

I have a nice reply from Spotify stating that as far as I do not expect Spotify to support the solution it is OK to implement support for NMT:

This is the ending of our conversation:

Quote:I know you cannot make Spotify avilable on alla platforms and setups
yourselves, that was the point in my question. To see if I understand your
answer correctly I would like some clarification.

My question was:
Is it within your Terms of use to make Spotify avalible on a TV-set via an
extender with the NextPVR plugin SpotTV?

My enterpratation of your answer:
Yes, it is OK since it enhances the customer experience with Spotify.

Spotify then answered:

Quote:Thanks for getting back to us.

You are free to do this, however as its not something that we support if something was to go wrong then we wouldn't be able to offer support for the device.

I hope this clears things up.

Kind regards,
Nab

Thanks for looking in to this, good to know going forward that there's scope for adding NMT support.

In the short term I can't see me adding many new features to the Spotify plugin. It does what I consider the bare minimum. A big problem is that the Spotify API is hard to use directly and the 'torshy' and 'SpotiFire' C# libs which can be used to make it easier require .NET 4. As NextPVR runs on .NET 2.0, a plugin can't use .NET 4 features Sad

Having said that, I'm open to suggestions and requests. They'll be given some thought and if possible added in due course.

No problem, I did not expect it to be working tomorrow...

Of course you take it at your own pace and ability, at least you now that it is according to Spotify Terms of use if manage to get it running Smile

Finally Spotify makes it to NZ, so I get all excited only to have my hopes dashed as it looks like the NextPVR plugin for it has never got past a first release with no NMT support Sad

It's hard to fault a plugin for the DRM and content protection that is preventing playback of streamed media on extenders.

Huh?? Where did you get that from??

forzaKGB Wrote:Saw in the WiKi that there is no support for NMT. And that you ask for requsts...
So here is the obvius one: SUPPORT FOR NMT PLAYBACK OF SPOTIFY

Could be a no-go but I hope it is possible...

McBainUK Wrote:It may be technically possible. But may fall foul of the "Approved Device" in the Spotify T&Cs.

From my reading of these messages in this thread it seems that it could be possible but not looked at yet???

From previous discussions on Spotify with McBainUK he indicated that an NMT solution would requiring bridging the PC audio output to the NMT rather than streaming directly. I do this occasionally now with some Internet audio feeds with a customized WebRadio but it requires a NextPVR backend with no audio output.

This is true.

That was one idea. Although another idea was to get Spotify playing in NextPVR directly - but due to time and only a small demand for it I didn't look any further....
