Some weeks ago I posted a problem as I was unable to get NextPVR to add a channel for the video input on old analogue AvMedia TV card under XP. I got it working on another old XP client and transferred several VHS recordings to NextPVR but I actually used Cyberlink Power Director as it was easier when working with a VCR as it has a monitor display.
I have now transferred the card to my Vista NextPVR server where I want to record occasional programmes from my DVB-C box. I was surprised that Vista had a driver for the card and was able to make test recording using Power Director 7. I then set up NextPVR to record from the card video input. The problem is that when feeding 16:9 video into the card NextPVR records it as 5:4 aspect ratio at 30fps according to Media Info. So when played back on NextPVR or VLC there is a large black gap at either edge of the display and everyone looks very thin. By comparison recordings made using Power Director with settings as close as possible to NPVR the aspect ratio is 4:3 at 25fps.
Is this likely to be a problem with the old capture card which may not be able to recognise 16:9 video? The old version of Power Director I have displays the 16:9 video as 4:3 in the preview window and there does not seem to be a setting to change.
