I have registered CLVsd.ax from PowerDVD 12 so that I can use it for Mpeg2 decoding in NPVR. It works, but when I go into the properties dialogue box to change it from software to DXVA, the setting wont stick and I can see it's doing it's decoding in software.

Can anyone offer a suggestion regarding how to fix this?

Thanks Smile

There are some registry entries that you have to add - I don't have them here at present. Hoborg's SAF unlocked adds them on install - but even then the check boxes in the settings screen for PDVD have no effect, I believe it is to do with the settings screen and NPVR being different exe's - but I could be wrong.

Thanks for that Lao. I would be interested to know what those registry settings are. BTW, the settings dialogue box I was referring to is the one inside NPVR, not PDVD. You know, when you click on the [...] button next to the decoder.

Cheers.

I've just realized got SAF on this computer - don't tell the boss Big Grin - the attached text file has the reg entries for NPVR, PVRX2 and all the other useful programs just change the extenshun to reg and double click - job done - thanks to Hoborg.
You still won't get the settings to stick in the NPVR settings dialog but DXVA will be used in NPVR - allegedly Smile

CLVsd.ax is the only decoder I have found that will use DXVA on MPEG2 video. My NextPVR client uses a P4 processor so I thought it may need a bit of help from DXVA on playback. It did reduce processor use by about 50% but as it was only running at around 15% to start with it was hardy worth bothering about. The "Use DXVA" check box under "Properties" never seems to show DXVA is enabled even when it is working. The LAV video decoder is also supposed to decode MPEG2 using DXVA but I have been unable to get it to work.

If you use DXVA Checker and look under the DSF/MFT tab you will see all the installed decoders. Any decoders in red such as the Cyberlink ones seems to indicate DXVA use because when you select one of them the GPU tab becomes active. This gives you the option to enable/disable DXVA on that decoder. Unfortunately the Help file is in Japanese so it is difficult to get the maximum out of this useful software.
