Stoopid noob linux question - The 'getting started' sticky says step one install npvr, step 2 install the addon. There's a linux version of the addon but I thought npvr was windows only?

I'd like to give the new Openelec xbmc release a spin with npvr as the backend but obviously I'm missing some really basic info. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Cheers.

NextPVR is Windows only, so you need a Windows machine somewhere to run NextPVR as the backend.

You can run the XBMC frontend on another machine, running either Windows or Linux though.

Jeebus that was quick!

Ah, well that makes sense. I had hopes of waving goodbye to Mr Gates. I guess I'll wait until I get that cheap upgrade version of win 8 and give the xbmc/pvr thing a whirl then. BTW thanks for your efforts with xbmc sub. Being able to boot straight into xbmc with npvr support and ditching event ghost in the process should make my htpc both better to use and more reliable, so cheers.

so I would have to have my linux media center (XBMCUbuntu) machine and my windows 7 box networked together. run nextpvr backend on my windows 7 box (I forget the name of the service) and run the XBMC on a dedicated linux version XBMC install and have the npvr backend service point to the windows box?
