I am definitely a novice with NextPVR. I had some difficulty with Search. I have rewritten the page about it. Becoming a full author is too big a mountain for me to climb right now. And I do feel that I am experienced enough for that role. So if an expert would review this and get it into the wiki documentation

Thank you in advance.

I have just learned that in fact the articles a and the get special handling. The following paragraph should be replaced as follows :

The fin information about the show you are interested in, select the first letter of title of the show. Titles that begin with the articles a and the are listed both under the leading article and the first letter of the second word in the title. For example "A Farewell To Arms" is listed both in A and F, "The Searchers" is listed both in T and S. The following screen is the result of the letter D being selected.

george - I would recommend you request edit rights to the wiki - that doesn't mean you are a full author just a contributor, then you can make (even minor) wiki edits as appropriate. I don't believe there is anyone specifically responsible to take pages in text and pop them in the wiki as you ask.

I has a couple of dilemmas. I felt that my experience as a novice could improve some sections for the next person setting up and using NPVR for the first time. But I am so new to NPVR and I can not help believe that I will get something just wrong - perhaps as illustrated by post #2. So I wanted someone with more experience with NPVR to review what I have written before it was put in to wiki. I am about to be gone for a 3-4 weeks (My internet access will be limited) and knew I could not learn the wiki editing system and get things written before I left. If nothing has happened when I get back home again. I will make that effort then.

Thanks.

I totally agree that a novice to a program is the best person by far to write instructions for setting it up.

I also think that is not a problem and is a good idea (it could also well encourage other new users to give documenting a go) to post a proof in this forum area to be added to the wiki by someone else if you are not comfortable putting it straight onto the wiki yourself.

More often than not I agree with Jaggy on a lot of things. I could not agree more with you Jaggy on your post above Wink A double agree!

Someone trying out this stuff for the first time is usually far better placed to try to write it up Big Grin

This is how a wiki works, and shows up imperfections. A manual is probably NEVER truly complete. Particularly with developing software and with the way that sub keeps developing the great NextPVR. It is not like writing a manual for a dishwasher. Once they break-out a model the spec really does not change. Around here we are constantly adapting!

If one of us 'old wiki timer's' has the chance to put George's work in then that is a great start. Otherwise George, I say take a break for your 3-4 weeks. If you get the chance do not write stuff up, dig around with pmwiki and how this wiki works. See the tools and language. Then write some stuff up. I cannot see anything that you have done that I would not just advise or offer simple advice to tweak on.

Bear in mind I only offered help with this wiki a few years back and  now I seem to be an admin for it Wink

cheers George, cheers Jaggy
