Would a HDHR Prime, without a cablecard in it, function more or less the same as a regular HDHR? (i.e. work for clearQAM)

I was unable to make my DCR-2650 (a Hauppauge-branded 2 tuner cablecard made by Silicon Dust) work as a clear QAM tuner with npvr, even though it is advertised as having the capability. It only worked with a cablecard. That being said, I didn't try to tune clear QAM with an unactivated cablecard in place, but what would be the point of that.

Yes, I used mine that way for a few weeks, before getting a CC.

Cool. I impulse bought another HDHR on Saturday when at the local computer store, but I might return it in favor of the Prime if I can use it like that.

Just wanted to post a followup - in case someone hits on this with a search later. I exchanged my newer HDHR and it indeed works great as a plain 3-tuner device without having a cablecard installed.

So, next question. If I add an activated cablecard from my cableco to my HDHR Prime, will that work with NPVR, and would I get any additional content?
