I would like to manually set my machine to standby-mode. Probably the shutdown plugin is the most suitable place for this functionality.

im pretty sure the code is in the latest source for this, if i remember it has the options
hibernation
standby
restart
shutdown
logoff (not sure about this one, but i think there are 5 options).

when i updated it, i didnt see the need for any of the other options. but if anyone wants to extend it, they easily can.

In the meantime I have solved this by creating a custom task, which calls Cygwin's "shutdown.exe -p now". That does the job perfectly for me.

Does this plugin put up the message if it detects that XP is shutting down via the START menu? I want it to stop me from turning off the machine (via warning) if a recording is imminent. This should be pretty easy to implement assuming the main application is setup to grab the shutdown message coming from Windows.

What you could do, in a quick-and-dirty approach, is to create a batch file that, prior to shutting down the machine, checks the recording status. Someone here developed a nice little tool, that should give you the information you want.
