I am not able to play any of the recordings in NPVR. I'm just getting a black screen when I attempt to play anything. This just started all of a sudden a few days ago. I have not installed or changed anything on the machine for several months. It appears that Windows did an update (Win 7 64 bit) at about the same time though. IE 10 was installed along with a couple of Windows updates. I'm attaching a log.

You are using the MS video decoder which was included in the IE 10 upgrade and the new version broke compatibility. See http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...post454973 for a patch to restore compatibility between NPVR and the MS decoder.

Thank you! The patch seems to be working.

Does this mean that the IE10 upgrade will break the MS video decoder for MPEG2 in Win 7? I understood that the patch only affected h.264 playback. Does this now extend to MPEG2 under 7?

This seems to have been only a Win 8 issue, until now.

I wondered about that too Mike. However aseibert's first-ever thread sought help for a Colossus, which does hardware h.264 encoding.

Good point. That makes it more clear. I'm still going to avoid IE10. Smile

Honestly, I didn't even think about MPEG-2/4. I just checked the logs to see if a video decoder was even being loaded, saw that it was loading the MS decoder and saw IE10 in his post.

Re Win 8 issue until now: Windows 8 ships with IE10 which was why it never worked with Win8 until the patch. Only recently was IE10 pushed as an update to Win7.

It was only an h264 issue for me.
