I was under the impression that the later patches to 2.6.2 supported the Huffman coded EPG for freeview and freesat? It is in the 3.1.1 changelog

That sounds like a 290e issue reported by martin123 and others before 3.1.1: http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...post462217

It has been reported that the 290e needs a powered USB hub because some motherboards can't supply enough power for it. However you wrote in your very first forum post that "the HD channels...work perfectly in MCE." If that statement is accurate, then I would think that your tuners are getting sufficient power.

Before installing SAF v.6.2.2 "UNLOCKED" you might try selecting the Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder for H.264. You needed a patch to use it for H.264 with NextPVR version 2.6.2, but no longer.

Thanks for the support with this one.
I got the USB drives recognised again by uninstalling all the USB hubs/hosts in the device manager.... ooophs - including the one the keyboard/mouse is connected too!
Removed all codecs and installed the unlocked SAF 6.2.2 pack. selected Cyberlink 13 as the decoders for video and both SD and HD play fine now :-)
Going to do a last restart and hopefully the tuners will be recognised again when it boots back up!
Thanks again,
John
