Unable to Communicate to Recording Service

I have yet not nailed down exactly what causes this but I am getting "Unable to Communicate to Recording Service". I think what happens is that if I schedule a recording then cancel it, and then try to watch TV again I get the error.


This just happened when trying to watch live tv in xbmc. I stopped the viewing then went to NextPVR and noticed that NextPVR was still recording so I canceled the recording. I then tried to watch tv via the guide and received the error.

On a side note: Shouldn't stopping viewing stop recording in NextPVR?

Whn I get this error, I check the NPVR Recording service and it is not running. The only way to clear the error is to reboot. When I reboot, I get a warning that NextPVR is currently recording.

Man you guys are tough. I should do to you like my users do to me and tell you "there is a problem with my app" Smile And I support about 50 of them!

Do you want me to clear the logs and try to repeat the issue then post? I just had a different issue with rewinding when watching tv through xmbc and I would worry that the two got confused. I could clear the log, then try to repeat the issue. Does this sound good?

The more concise you can make your logs the better. The simplest thing to do is reboot, then recreate the problem, and finally .zip and post the logs. In this case we'd want the entire NPVR\Logs folder, as well as the xmbc log.

The logs are necessary to show exactly what you did, and then hopefully what went wrong (or what the software *thinks* went wrong). Without them all we can do is guess. Sometimes that's ok if you happen to be reporting something we already know about, or if it's the sort of problem that by it's very nature produces no log data (though even then sometimes what ISN'T in the logs is telling).

Tough yes but logs are key. Your explanation only make sense if you are stopping the recording service which would kill your xbmc client connection and cause unable to communicate .... messages.

If you think it is tough without logs here try on the xbmc forum.

Yeah I was just teasing you. I am in "the business" so I understand the importance of getting good information. I am watching "the tube" now but will post logs later.
