choosing a format to record shows with

Hello there.
I would like to save my shows in .mpg format, but when I try to record a show, it saves it in .ts format instead.
am I able to change this? if so, how?

The quick answer is no, you're not. Digital broadcast is transmitted in TS format and npvr just stores it. For compatibility analog recordings are also stored in ts format, but you can convert the recordings to any format you like. There are some threads here dealing with converting, try searching.

To add to to Mr Dwarf ... .ts is a container and will contain recordings in the format that they were broadcast (for digital broadcasts). Often this is MPEG for SD channels and H264 for HD channels.

I think Australian broadcasts are still exclusively MPEG 2 (rather like the U.S. in that respect). I don't see the advantage in transcoding to .mpg, unless of course you want to burn DVDs.
