Maybe this is already a feature and I just don't know how to do it:

I understand the EPG is searched for show names that are either:
- An exact match or
- Starts with "Show Name....."

But TV3 in NZ has this annoying policy of naming new seasons episodes with "All New...." and I wonder how long they will maintain that policy.

e.g. I recorded a season of "Ice Road Truckers" last year and left that in my recurring recordings for the next season, but now TV3 has "All New Ice Road Truckers" it gets missed unless I enter have that as a recurring recording as well.

If I can select that I want to record all shows that CONTAIN the text "Ice Road Truckers" then all of the shows could be picked up.

This would be an 'advanced rule' recurring recording. The easy way is to find an episode of the show, and create a recurring recording as normal, but use the "all episodes, all channels" setting. Once that's done, then go to the recurring recording list, select the new recording, and select 'modify'. Now edit the rule at the bottom so that it says: title like '%Ice Road Truckers%'
The % symbols are wildcards, so it records anything with "Ice Road Truckers" anywhere in the title.

I've used guideplus, and have it add an asterisk after new shows. I currently have scheduled recordings for Show* and Show. Your instructions sounded like a way to condense this into one recurring recording.

I set up the recurring recording for "all episodes, all channels." I go into recurring recordings, select the show in question, and I don't get modify, just "update." If I go into update, I get to edit a manual recording, and this doesn't allow me to change the advanced rules. Should I not be using "Recordings" to perform this action?

Sorry, it is "Update", I wasn't looking at the screen when I was typing. When you get to the Advanced Rules field, it's not obvious you can edit it as no cursor appears, but just start typing. To change existing text you'll have to backspace over it and re-type, the arrows don't work.

I think in your particular case though, if you set Settings->Recording->Recurring Match to "Match Start Of Title" and then set your recurring recording to record "Show" it will also pick up "Show*"; conversely if you set it to record "Show*" it'll only get the new ones marked with the *.

The Advanced Rules will give you finer control of course, at the expense of some manual fiddling. For example, here in the US a variety of BBC shows are imported and aired on PBS channels with the Title "Masterpiece Classic", and then the Subtitle contains the actual show title like "Downton Abbey" or "Mr. Selfridge". To avoid recording absolutely every Masterpiece Classic show (lest my wife accidentally discover yet another costume drama!), I created recurring recordings with the Advanced Rules "subtitle like 'Downton Abbey%'" and "subtitle like 'Mr. Selfridge%'"; they also append the season or episode number to the subtitle, so the trailing % takes care of that.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! The info for the * was great, but that PBS suggestion is even better, as my wife is exactly the same with the BBC shows!

I had no idea that you could edit the Advanced Rules Field; I thought by pushing the button left or right, the only options that were possible would appear, but nothing ever popped up. Thanks again!
