I use SAB to download and rename TV episodes before it moves them to my TV folder. I notice I get an nfo file with many of them which has the exact same name as the episode but NPVR does not show that file on the info screen. Is there something I can do about that or is that "just the way it is." I'm attaching such a file which as the same file name as the episode.

NextPVR does not process .nfo files (yet). Since you get many/most of your shows from downloads, it may be that XBMC would be a better match as a client. XBMC does process .nfo files. XBMC can be a client to the NextPVR recording process.

Actually, it does read some nfo files as I have several that are showing in the display screen. Just not the one I mentioned above.

NextPVR supports a couple of different nfo file format standards.

Unfortunately many nfo files cant be supported, like the one you've posted. ie the totally useless kind Big Grin, with no proper formatting or tags identifying the content. ie, this file is effectively meant for just a human to read in notepad.

You may find Media Companion https://mediacompanion.codeplex.com/ useful for your situation it will scan folders for either movie or TV Shows and create nfo files that can be read by NPVR - I think? - and down load posters , fanart etc.
I use it for Movies only with the Movies plug-in and it has never failed to get the correct Info.
It's not an overly complicated system - it's more - overly simple operatives  Huh

Thanks. I use it also for movies but it doesn't work as well for TV for someone like me who doesn't work with season folders. That's been my problem, finding workable nfo files for TV from all of the media programs I've tried...they all seem to expect you to want to save season after season of TV episodes and I just don't do that. Theoretically, Sickbeard will do it but I've never been able to get that to work properly. What I'd like to find is a program that will automatically find a nfo file for a single TV episode as long as it's named properly. I've pretty much come to the conclusion that program doesn't exist but I'll probably keep on looking for awhile longer.

What would also work well for me is if NPVR would let you use the metadata selection in Videos on individual episodes to get the episode nfo. Perhaps that's something Sub would consider for a later version?

Maybe. It's not something I've looked at already though.

I finally found the solution to my nfo problem. I have been using Sickbeard/SAB to get TV episode files but have now changed to NZBDrone/SAB to accomplish that. Drone also will get a XBMC nfo file NPVR can display but has the advantage of placing the downloaded files in any directory/folder of your choosing rather than always placing them in its root folder. It will even send every program to a different directory/folder if that's what you want. Now I use Media Companion to scrape for metadata for movies and Drone to automatically (it runs in the task folder) select and post process my TV episodes. For me, it makes NPVR both attractive and extremely functional.
