what do I need to do to set up a pvr service? I currently have hdhomerun set with xbmc and it works wonderfully to choose my channels and get it through there, but I'd prefer to have a pvr and live tv setup in xbmc so I can pause, rewind, and record. The i downloaded nextpvr and tried to set it up and it sees both my tuners (just a single antenna getting over-the-air here in US) but when i click setup device and scan for channels nothing is found. I tried mediaportal then because i thought maybe it was nextpvr, but the exact same problem occurred. I can get see the tuners, but not grab any channels. I went into hdhomerun setup and changed the application to either platform and hit apply but that seemed to make absolutely 0 difference. No channels found, ever. XBMC still works great, playing all the channels flawlessly. am I missing a step or something?

I posted this on the HDHomeRun support forum and it was suggested I ask here so I'm posting here as well in hopes of getting some help. I already have EPG and strms set up that xbmc uses, but I need a PVR backend so I can start recording things that I'd like to watch later but don't need to keep in my xbmc library.

It'll be one of two things. Either you need to add firewall exceptions for nextpvr.exe and nrecord.exe (because your firewall software is blocking data from the HDHR from getting to NextPVR), or you need to set the application to 'Other ATSC/QAM' in the SiliconDust setting app (shouldn't need to do this, but some have had to).

alright, huge improvement! Adding nextpvr and nrecord as exceptions to the firewall brought in a bunch of new channels. I added my schedules direct info and configured all the channels to look like what I think they should, and now things seem to have fallen flat. I can open the channel guide in nextpvr (and xbmc) but the EPG is blank (maybe just not downloaded from SD yet?). When selecting a channel to watch in NPVR I just get a black screen, no output at all... when I select a channel in xbmc it comes up with an error saying the NextPVR Tuner is Unavailable.
