I have nextpvr installed and working well for the most part. I would like to have the ability to watch my recordings on my android smartphone. I figured out how to do it using VLC stream & convert when I am home on the same network as my windows 7 server. I can't figure out how to access my recordings away from home via the internet. I read through the documentation wiki under web streaming capabilities, but I just couldn't wrap my head around the setup process. I don't know where to find the EWA screen to adjust for my having 64 bit Windows 7 is. In VLC somewhere? I have searched a lot and can't seem to find a dummy's guide to streaming. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Install vlc (x64 or 32-bit....I use x64) on your NPVR server. Go to newa http://your-server:8866/admin.aspx. (can also use admin2.aspx) but it sounds like you may be using a low resolution and are not seeing the tab in admin2 version) Set.vlc location per wiki. Note your stream port (defaulted to 7648)...no need to change unless something already is using that port on your server...highly unlikely. Close newa. Go to no-ip.com and setup a free account. This will allow you to have an Internet address like my-server.no-ip.biz so you can easily access your home from the internet. Search Google for your router make/model along with port forwarding. You should be able to find instructions on how to setup port forwarding on your router. You want to forward port 7648 to your newa server on your network. With your router now setup to forward pot 7648 to your newa server and you have your easy access external url you should be set. On device other than your NPVR server go to your newa via your external address... http://my-server.no-ip.biz:8866 Log in to newa (id/pwd service via NPVR application on server under one of the areas) When clicking on an event or recording you should see option for stream now.....if you don't then your vlc location is not entered correctly in the admin screen. See wiki. Click on stream now....from there you can set the settings for they type of transcoding desired and actually start the stream. Search this forum for settings ideas...I know I have posted my preference settings many times. Do not us the browser plug in option....it will not work....so you need to opt for external player and choose vlc....much more reliable than windows media player. When you start the stream your client will be sent a file called vlc.m3u.....open using vlc.....this file simply passes the url for the streaming video to vlc....you can alternatively after starting the stream open vlc and then select file open network stream nd entry your stream url: http://my-server.no-ip.biz:7648 Hope this helps..... may be a little while till 8 can check back as I am on holiday in the woods and only have 1x 1 bar mobile connection.

Thanks Uncle JoWhen I find the time to get back to it I'll give it a try. Really busy now and out of the country next week. Port forwarding is no problem for me. That's the easy part.

I believe Live TV is broken due to VLC no longer providing/supporting a browser plugin. I will be changing the Live Tv to send a M3U file to the browser which will let the client choose (if not defaulted on their device) what to use to open the M3U file which simply contains the address of the stream....which will be on the same port as if steaming a recording. Will behave like the stream of a recorded event does....

You could click on the Live Tv link which should start the stream.....then manually start VLC or some other media player on your client and open a network stream at your url/port......and it should pick up the stream... the only problem with this is that the stream will run for a long time since there is nothing to stop the stream....

Thanks, No problem streaming recordings - works well too!

BTW, when to you anticipate the next release (or the one with the mentioned change)? Any chance that the stream could be transcoded (similar to that of HDHRFling)?

The streaming uses VLC and you have the same transcoding options you have when you stream recordings.

I am on holiday through this week (was on holiday last week too) so not sure when I will have something to release.
