Running NPVR 3.5.7 and Kodi NPVR client 1.10.8 with Kodi 15.1

I haven't attached the log files as I believe this is more of a question on how to handle a problem I currently have.

My live tv buffer file will keep growing if the Kodi clients connection is abruptly disconnected. So the power went off the other day and I have the NPVR server on a battery backup but the Kodi Clients are not on battery backup. I noticed the Live TV Buffer directory was still growing with no clients connected and streaming. How do I get around this, say if I'm not home for a week and the power goes down and comes back I would come home to a full HDD.

Is there a way to have like a keep-alive check or something and stop server from buffering to directory when clients are actually not connected?

You'll probably need to post the logs, and note about the time it disconnected, so we can take a look. Normally Windows would tell use the socket connection had closed, and it'll stop the stream.

Some notes on the logs:

-Stopped the NPVR service deleted all logs (so you don't have to wade through an ocean of logs) and restarted service
-Started streaming from a Kodi/Raspberry Pi 2 @ 11:06 pulled the power away from the client shortly after 11:07
-The client and server on different L2 networks
-Left the client off until 11:11 giving it ample time to detect if socket was still alive then turned it back on.

The buffer @ C:\Temp has a file named live-KRTV-1572-1.ts and is creating new ones as well ATM.

That's odd. Can't see any sign of the socket disconnect. Normally windows would no let you keep send data to a socket that had become disconnected. Even in the worst case it'd tell you after a few seconds.

Are you running any firewall software? If so, it'll be interesting to see if it behaves any differently with it disabled.

Windows firewall is only firewall on the machine... It is disabled on Home and Public networks, also there is no AV/Malware/firewall or other programs running on this machine. This machine is strictly for NPVR with no other bells and whistles.

It did detect a socket disconnect after a couple of hours and finally stop recording to the temp file. Going to make a BAT file the cleans this directory up if files older than 7 days.

Thanks,

I don't know why you're having this problem. I've not seen other posts with similar problems.

You're not running antivirus software that might be causing this? These types of apps often also work as a kind of firewall, and sometimes modify the behaviour of sockets.

It could also potentially be something about the router you're using.

I have had this problem. I think it has to do with setting the "TimeShift Mode" to "EPG". I haven't noticed this problem after setting the "TimeShift Mode" back to "Time Based".

Nevermind. The growing buffer is back. I'll try disabling the antivirus and see what happens. Kodi is on same machine as NextPVR so it shouldn't be the router.
