So for those of you that say 99.99% is not achieveable what is achievable? 95%? 90%? What common issues pop up on you?

The only reason that I know of for "ad-hoc" problems is a tuner that behaves badly. I have been running NextPVR (and its predecessor) for ten years and the only problems I have had (that are not of my own making) are tuners that fail to restart properly after a reboot and tuners that prevent a resume from sleep. My opinion is that the greatest stability comes from tried and tested tuners ... I have tried others but I plan to go with Hauppauge tuners in future.

A few years ago, my system was unattended for three weeks ... I returned and everything had recorded exactly as intended throughout the three weeks.

For sure that is NOT something I would say!!!

I have been using NextPVR & prior to that GB-PVR for around 10 years now & in that total time it has missed three recordings, 1 in GB-PVR days when the recording service locked for some strange reason & 2 since updating to NextPVR both to do with DST & the channel moving broadcasting time slightly (this was able to be cured by tweaking the config file so it doesn't happen now).... I also had a corrupted Windows at one stage when a PSU went belly-up & screwed it up, that required a very quick re-install of Windows & GB-PVR then a copy over of the backed up GB-PVR files to be back up & running. (I would say that could well be better than 99.99% eh??)

There are one or two thing that are essential for a reliable system, firstly DON'T play with it once you have it in production... it's another one of your appliances not a toy. Secondly don't update it until you are sure the update is reliable. Thirdly test any software updates thoroughly on another PC prior to updating the production machine..... BTW I am still using the original PC I built specificity as a PVR server all those years ago, but I am currently in the process of finalising a much newer server for our PVR setup (I just hope it is as reliable as the old one once I get it in production)

For sure I use my using (toy-test) PC to test EVERYTHING prior to it going anywhere near the production PVR
