I am having trouble with scheduling a manual recording. I like to do manual recordings for all of my shows since otherwise my shows don't always get recorded (it's a long story). I've also been spoiled by previously having a good EPG service with Windows Media Center, and I'm not really interested in the complexities of setting up mc2xml or paying for schedules direct. It's just easier to do it manually, and I don't record that many shows to begin with.

The other day I installed Next PVR and set up two manual recordings for Sunday morning political shows. Bizarrely enough, they were both recorded at the wrong time, and one of the recordings was actually a completely different political show on a different channel that I did not tell it to record. I have no idea how that happened. Then I noticed that an entire EPG schedule had automatically been uploaded. I wonder if somehow that confused my manual schedule. Is there some way I could have the EPG removed or prevented from being updated? Also, where is a manual recording schedule saved? Is there a particular file it is located in that I could access with a text editor?

You may just have suffered from the problem that manual recordings are not savings time aware. Try again.

Has the EPG Source for your channels defaulted to DVB/ATSC EPG? (Assumes that they are over the air ATSC channels) Settings --> Channels ... http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?...n.Channels

Is Auto Update EPG ticked on? Settings --> Misc2 ... http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?...tion.Misc2

Perhaps that contributed, although my system clock had already automatically changed. More puzzling is the fact that it decided to record a different channel than I had chosen.

Internally, NextPVR stores all recordings in UTC so those times don't change with daylight savings time. Whenever it displays times (in the guide, in recording lists, etc.), it uses the Windows timezone setting to translate between "local time" and UTC. After daylight savings time begins, the manual recordings are still scheduled by UTC time, but the local time for that recording is now 1 hour later than when they were scheduled (presuming that they were scheduled during non-DST). For recordings scheduled from the EPG, they generally end up getting "automatically adjusted" during the first EPG update after DST begins because NextPVR sees that the scheduled show has changed its (UTC) time.

So does that mean NextPVR will always be off by an hour during daylight savings if I want to do a manual recording? Is there nothing I can do to change that?

If you schedule the manual recording during daylight savings time, then it will record at the correct time. Of course, then when daylight savings time ends, you will need to reschedule it again or it will record an hour earlier than you want.
